Stratigraphy & Field Geology Assistant

Module 3.1

Build measured sections, log stations, interpret facies, correlate sections, and preserve evidence boundaries.

Scaled measured section

Stratigraphic column

Observation + interpretation

Interpretive stratigraphic column

Automatic facies and environment suggestions are heuristic field aids. They are never laboratory-confirmed depositional interpretations.

Cross-section comparison

Correlation panel

Age model

Constraint intersection

The combined interval is the mathematical overlap of entered constraints. It is not a calibrated age–depth model and does not account for reworking, hiatuses, or analytical uncertainty distributions.

Section-local biostratigraphy

Fossil occurrence ranges

Ranges shown here are first and last observed occurrences within this measured section only; they are not global taxon ranges.

Waypoint overview

Local station map

Offline coordinate plot only; no basemap or network connection is required. North is up and east is right.

No georeferenced stations.

Project starter

Teaching dataset

Adds three linked stations, structural measurements, samples, and paleocurrent observations without replacing your current work.

Lower-hemisphere equal-area preview

Stereonet

This preview plots plane poles and linear measurements. It is suitable for field review and export, not a substitute for a full structural-analysis package.

Field sketch

Sketch pad

Sketches are stored as compressed local images in the current station record.

Pattern reference

Lithology legend

Contact symbols

Portable outputs

Export current section

JSON is the authoritative editable format. PNG, SVG, CSV, Markdown, and printed PDFs are presentation exports.

Field geology outputs

Stations, structures, and samples

Coordinates are exported exactly as entered. Review location precision and privacy before sharing field data.

Stratigraphic intelligence outputs

Facies, surfaces, chronology, and correlation

Observation records are preserved separately from facies, sequence, age, and correlation interpretations. Export both the section/field workspaces and this intelligence workspace for a complete project archive.

Stratigraphic intelligence record

Current section interpretation bridge

No interpretation record available.

Field integration record

Current station bridge

No station selected.

GeoSuite bridge

Integration record

Every section exports stable rock, mineral, bed, sample, and locality links under the section schema geochem-stratigraphy/1.0 and field schema geochem-field-geology/2.0.

Version 3.0

Measured Sections + Field Geology + Stratigraphic Intelligence

Version 3 preserves the complete measured-section and field-geology workspaces while adding explicit facies, depositional-environment, lithostratigraphic, sequence-stratigraphic, chronological, fossil-range, and cross-section correlation layers. Raw observations remain separate from every interpretation.

  • Multiple projects and sections with local autosave.
  • True-thickness column scaling with standard lithology patterns.
  • Contacts, sedimentary structures, fossils, samples, photographs, and GeoSuite links.
  • Undo/redo, drag reordering, versioned JSON, SVG/PNG, CSV, Markdown, and print output.
  • Offline, dependency-free HTML/CSS/JavaScript architecture.
  • Field stations, degree-based structural attitudes, stereonet preview, GeoJSON, sample inventory, photo log, and sketches.
  • Facies shorthand, environment suggestions, formation/member hierarchy, sequence surfaces, age constraints, fossil occurrence ranges, and user-reviewed cross-section correlation.

Field-use cautions

  • Measured thickness should be corrected for bedding attitude and traverse geometry when needed.
  • Lithology patterns are graphical conventions, not substitutes for detailed descriptions.
  • Interpretations should remain separate from direct observations.
  • Browser storage can be cleared; export important projects as JSON.

Built-in validation

Run both regression suites to verify measured sections, field stations, structural attitudes, exports, links, and schema integrity.
